Most families need to stretch every dollar, but all work and no play gets old fast. Follow these tips to save money on family entertainment while still having fun.
With the economy in a serious recession, people are looking for ways to pinch pennies wherever possible. Many people are looking for ways to save money on family entertainment. It can be really difficult to have fun on a budget. However, there are ways to get out of the house for a family outing without spending too. It just takes a little imagination and an innovative approach. These suggestions will get your creative juices flowing, and before long you will have a plethora of ways to enjoy family fun while spending very little money. Go on a Scavenger HuntYou will be surprised how much fun your kids will have participating in a scavenger hunt. You will probably be even more surprised by how much you enjoy it. It's really simple and virtually cost-free to pull off too. All you need to do is compile a list of funny and unique items to find, then gather your family together and start searching. Hop in the car and head to the park, or stay in your own neighborhood. You make the list, so you decide the parameters for the scavenger hunt. Go CampingThis does tend to be a seasonal activity, depending on your location, but it is an extremely inexpensive way to have some family fun. Camping can also be an educational experience for your kids because there are so many plants and wildlife to teach your children about through actual hands-on learning. Many times, campgrounds offer bike trails, hiking opportunities, fishing, and swimming areas. Then there is the must have campfire with marshmallows and ghost stories ritual. You will strengthen the family bond, and your kids will never get bored. An added benefit is that your whole family will be spending time outside in the fresh air getting plenty of exercise. Attend Community FestivalsCheck your community calendar for upcoming festivals in your area. Most of these events offer an excellent opportunity to save money on family entertainment. You can usually expect live music, free activities for the kids such as games and inflatable jump zone, and crafts or contests. You will probably have to splurge on a funnel cake or two, but they are typically very inexpensive. Eat before you go to cut down on your children's begging for vendor delicacies. See a Movie During the Matinee HoursMovie tickets usually cost half or less than half of the full price during the matinee hours. Eat before you leave for the movie, then offer your kids a candy from the concession counter. This will appease them, and it will save you a considerable amount of money. Visit Local Historical LandmarksNo matter where you live, it is a safe bet there are at least a few interesting historical landmarks in your area. Battlefields, Native American landmarks, government buildings, famous parks, Victorian homes, and haunted hotels all make for interesting family outings. Most offer tours, learning tools, trails, or at the very least some neat photo ops. You can learn something new with your kids which is a wonderful opportunity to bond. Best of all, most of these places offer free or very low cost admission. Not only will these suggestions help you have fun on a budget, but you will spend quality time with your family that is unlike a shopping trip to the mall in which you mainly just spend time with consumer goods.
